Alanson is in the Littlefield Township and was first settled in 1875. The area is on the Crooked River and is known for its beautiful Hillside Gardens and Worlds shortest swing bridge. It was renamed Alanson for Alanson Cook who was an official for the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. Alanson is part of the Inland Water Route which includes Crooked, Burt and Mullett Lakes. The town was incorporated in 1905 during the great Michigan lumber boom. Lumber wasn’t the only thing that boomed in this town.
