Birch Run is located in southeastern Saginaw County which is in Birch Run Township. It is located approximately half way between Flint and Saginaw. The town is best known for its large outlet mall which is located off the I-75 exit to the southwest. It has many wonderful restaurants. The area was originally founded as a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad by John Moore. Birch Run was named after its creek, which runs through a large birch area. It was organized as a village in 1954.
The population of Birch Run is 6,043, and the median home cost is $129,350. The cost of living is 22.76% lower than the U.S. average. The township spends $6,011 per student and there are about 18 students per teacher. The school district serves the village of Birch Run, Birch Run Township and Taymouth Township.
