Brighton is located in southeastern Michigan's Livingston County. Brighton is located half-way between the Detroit Metro area and Lansing, and half-way between Ann Arbor and Flint. Brighton is an ideal location it has both the commuter life style while still retaining small town charm and atmosphere. The town hosts a diverse economy which includes auto manufacturing, plastics, technology and wood products. Originally founded in 1832 by its first settler, Maynard Maltby.
The population in Brighton is 7,184 people and has seen a growth of 8.39 percent since the 2000 census. The median home cost is $167,250. The Brighton public schools spend $6,417 per student and there are 21 students per teacher. The school system is a collection of nationally and state-recognized institutions of excellence. Brighton High School has been a contender for one of the 1000 best high schools in the country by Newsweek.
