Evart, MI
Evart is located in eastern Osceola County and is situated on the Muskegon River. Evart was named after Civil War veteran Perry Oliver Everts who, purchased 80 acres where the town now exists. In 1870 at the town's organizational meeting Evert's name was misspelled and that misspelling, Evart, became the town's name. Evart was later organized as a city in 1930.
Evart is located on the Pere Marquette Rails-To-Trails State Park, the best activity is the Dulcimer FunFest, this is a 4-day extravaganza which features non-electric stringed instruments. The community has maintained a balance of past and present, it's downtown has kept it's turn-of-the-century style but they recenty built a new high school.
As of 2009 the population is 1,685 people and the median home cost is $71,250. This is a great town that is very affordable. The school district spends about $5,320 per student and there are about 16 students per teacher.
Since the Muskegon River flows through the city, it is a major source of recreation in the summertime providing the community with canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and other activities.
